Newcomers High School (High School 555) opened in 1995 with Lourdes Burrows as its principal. This school specializes in introducing new immigrants to American culture as well as teaching English. The school is located in Long Island City, Queens, near the Queens Plaza and Queensborough Plaza subway stations.
